Environmental analysis in a workplace

According to the Regulation of the Council of Ministers on the tests and measurements of the factors harmful to health in the work environment of 20 April 2005, every employer is obliged to check precise parameters of harmful physical, chemical and biological factors present in the company or which may potentially appear in the company. Such measurements should be taken not later than one month from the opening of the workplace.

Evaluation of the work environment is performed on the basis of the OHS analyses and measurements of harmful factors divided into three groups: physical, chemical and biological.

Physical factors include:

• noise at work stations,

• level of general and local mechanical vibration,

• lighting,

• emergency lighting,

• microclimate of the work environment.

Chemical factors include:

• organic solvents,

• metals and metal compounds,

• oxides and volatile organic compounds,

• other chemical compounds.

Biological factors include:

• bacteria,

• fungi,

• cellular microorganisms,

• microbes,

• and many other.

All of the above-listed harmful factors are necessary to determine the occupational hazard. Occupational health and safety regulations recommend performance of relevant measurements in order to establish the right procedures in order to improve working conditions and eliminate possible threats.
